You Don't Need Skills to Change Someone's Life — Just a Willingness to Show Up

Every volunteer who walks onto one of our build sites or through our ReStore doors brings something we can work with. We provide the training, the tools, and the direction. You bring the time. Together, we turn a Saturday morning into a wall that goes up, a ramp that gets installed, or a family one step closer to a home of their own in Danville or Pittsylvania County.

Where Volunteers Make a Real Difference

There are three ways to plug in, and none of them require prior experience. Whether you want to be outdoors swinging a hammer, helping seniors stay safely in their homes, or sorting donations at our ReStore on Riverside Drive, there's a place for you.

• Construction sites — Work alongside Habitat staff and other volunteers to build homes in the England Trail subdivision on Seminole Drive. Tasks include framing, painting, landscaping, and finishing work. No construction background required.
• Aging in Place — Help install grab bars, handrails, improved lighting, and accessibility ramps for homeowners aged 65 and older so they can remain safely in the homes they already own.
• Habitat ReStore — Sort, price, and organize donated furniture, appliances, cabinets, and building materials at our store at 2805 Riverside Dr. This is a great fit for volunteers who prefer an indoor, flexible setting.

No Experience Necessary — We Mean That

One of the most common things we hear is, "I'd love to help, but I don't know anything about construction." That's exactly who we're looking for. Habitat build sites are designed to welcome first-time volunteers. Our staff and crew leads walk you through every task before you start, and no one is handed a tool without knowing how to use it safely.

The same goes for Aging in Place work and ReStore shifts. You'll never be left to figure it out on your own. What we need from you is willingness — we'll handle the rest.

Volunteer Hours That Count — and Get Documented

If you're a student, a professional with required community service hours, or part of a program that needs verified documentation, we can support that. We work with individuals who need hours logged for school requirements, court-ordered service, or organizational commitments.

When you sign up through VolunteerUp, your hours are tracked and available for verification. Reach out to us directly if you need a specific format for documentation or have questions about how we handle the service hour process.

Groups Are Welcome — and Make a Bigger Impact

Some of our most productive build days happen when a team shows up together. We coordinate group volunteer opportunities for:

• Faith communities and church groups
• Corporate teams and employee volunteer programs
• College and university student organizations
• High school service clubs and class groups
• Civic organizations and community groups

Group volunteering is a meaningful way to build team connections while doing something that leaves a mark on the community. We'll work with your group coordinator to schedule a date, match your team to the right tasks, and make sure the day runs smoothly.
