Who This Program Is For

This program serves homeowners who are 65 or older and living in the City of Danville or anywhere in Pittsylvania County, including Chatham and Gretna. To be eligible, you must own and occupy the home where modifications are needed, and your household income must fall within program guidelines.

Here's Exactly What We Can — and Can't — Help With

We hear from a lot of homeowners who called us hoping for roof repairs, plumbing work, or structural fixes and were told we couldn't help. We understand how frustrating that is, and we want to be clear so no one wastes time or leaves discouraged.

The Aging in Place program is specifically designed for safety and accessibility modifications — not general home repair. That means we are not able to address roofs, HVAC systems, plumbing, or structural damage through this program. What we can do is assess your home for the hazards most likely to affect your safety and independence, and provide the targeted modifications that address them. If you've been turned away before, it may simply be that your need falls outside what this program covers — and we'd rather tell you that honestly than leave you guessing.

How the Program Works

Getting started is straightforward. Once you apply and are determined eligible, a member of our team will schedule a home assessment to identify which modifications would most improve your safety. From there, we coordinate the work — often completed by trained volunteers — at no cost to you.
