Start Your Path to Homeownership in Danville and Pittsylvania County
Joining our waitlist is how the process begins — a no-cost, no-commitment first step that puts you in line for a Habitat home built on a 0% interest mortgage with no profit taken.

What Happens After You Join the Waitlist
Step 1: Submit Your Interest Form
Complete the waitlist form below with your basic contact and household information. This tells us who you are, where you live or work, and that you're ready to learn more. There's no fee to apply, and submitting your information does not obligate you to anything.
Step 2: Review the Full Application
Once you’re on the waitlist, we’ll share the complete application once the application process opens to the public. The application covers income verification, household size, and your current housing situation — the same information we use to determine eligibility under our three core criteria.
Step 3: Complete Homebuyer Education
All Habitat homeowners complete a homebuyer education course before closing. This training covers budgeting, mortgage basics, and the responsibilities of homeownership — so you're fully prepared before you ever pick up a hammer.
Step 4: Build and Move In
Selected applicants partner with us to build their home through sweat equity — contributing hours alongside volunteers on the construction site. When your home is complete, you purchase it through a 0% interest mortgage with payments structured to stay affordable on a modest income.

Who Should Join the Waitlist
To be considered for a Habitat home in Danville or Pittsylvania County, applicants generally need to meet three criteria: a demonstrated need for housing, a willingness to partner through sweat equity, and the ability to repay an affordable mortgage. You must also live or work within the City of Danville or Pittsylvania County.
You may be a strong candidate if:
- Your current housing is overcrowded, unsafe, or unaffordable relative to your income
- Your household income falls within the low-to-moderate range for our area
- You are employed or have a reliable, documented source of income
- You are ready to commit to the sweat-equity hours required of every Habitat partner family
- You have not owned a home in the past three years (first-time homebuyer requirement may apply)
Joining the waitlist does not guarantee selection, but it is the required first step. We encourage anyone who thinks they may qualify to submit their information — our team reviews each application individually.
A Note on What We Do — and Don't — Offer
We want to be clear about one thing before you apply: the Habitat homeownership program is not a free-home giveaway, and we do not provide general home repairs such as roof replacements, plumbing work, or structural fixes. Our Homeownership Program is a pathway to purchasing a newly built or renovated home through a 0% interest, no-profit mortgage — one you earn through partnership and pay back over time.
If you are a homeowner aged 65 or older who needs safety modifications to remain in your current home, our Aging in Place program may be the right fit instead. That program addresses accessibility needs like grab bars, ramps, and improved lighting — and has its own separate application process.
