How Our Program Helps You Move Forward

When this program launches, it will focus on urgent structural repairs that affect health, safety, and habitability — things like roof repair, significant water intrusion, and other critical issues that put a family's ability to stay in their home at risk. It is designed for low-income homeowners who have no other means to address these conditions on their own.

 

This is a program under active development in our current strategic plan. We are working to secure the funding and partnerships needed to do it right. We will announce it here and through our community channels as soon as it is available.

What We Do Offer Right Now

While Critical Home Repair is still in development, two of our current programs may be able to help depending on your situation.

 

Our Aging in Place program serves homeowners aged 65 and older with safety and accessibility modifications — grab bars, ramps, handrails, and improved lighting — that make it safer to stay in a home you already own. This is not a general repair program, and it does not cover roofs or structural work, but if you or a family member is an older homeowner with safety concerns, it may be a fit.

 

Our Affordable Homeownership program is a separate pathway for working families in substandard or unaffordable housing who want to move toward owning a quality home. If your current housing situation has become untenable, this program may be worth exploring.

Why We're Being Specific About What This Program Is Not

One of the most common misconceptions about Habitat for Humanity — reinforced by search results and word of mouth — is that we provide free general home repairs: roofs, plumbing, structural fixes, and similar work. We do not currently offer those services at this affiliate, and we want to be clear rather than let families wait on help that isn't available yet.

 

We know that when a roof is failing or a home is becoming unsafe, families need accurate information quickly. Pointing you in the right direction matters more to us than appearing to offer something we can't deliver.

If you need home repair assistance now and our current programs aren't the right fit, there are other organizations serving the Danville and Pittsylvania County area that may be able to help.
